What Is youthACES for 16 to 21-year-olds?
It is a way for eligible high school junior and senior students - (not graduating) - ages 16 to 18, and out-of-school youth up to age 21, to gain experience and knowledge in the workplace through a Career Academy, Work Experience and Limited Internships. Each participant will be paid a wage to keep them in the program ($5.15 an hour for 200 hours during the summer, and an additional 320 hours after school during the remainder of the year may be possible). Their progress in the program, and afterward through the remainder of their high school career, will be monitored until they enter their chosen career field.
Students who qualify will work with employers in their chosen career field, gaining work experience and being involved in staff development training. They will earn wages while learning new skills and becoming more comfortable with the environment, where hopefully they will continue once they complete their education.
Career fields chosen for this program include Education, Health, Criminal Justice, Retail, Hospitality, and Technology.
The program is designed not only to teach young people new job-related skills and expose them to the working world, but it will also give them a sense of pride and build confidence in their abilities.
